Multiple Teams · Football Hopes to Beat Basehor on Opening Night of the New Turf Field

The turf is in, the bond has passed, and it is the first Friday night with high school football, it truly is a great day to be a Chieftain!

Tonight at 7pm, Tonganoxie will host Basehor-Linwood High School for the first regular season football game of the 2019 season.  This game is also known as the 20-40 Rivalry as the two schools are separated by just 10 miles. The game will be played at the newly improved Beatty Field. One of the major improvements is the installation of artificial turf. Over the summer, the artificial turf was installed and it looks amazing! There are other improvements to the stadium that you will have to come out to see and enjoy!

As for the football outlook, Tonganoxie is coming off of a decent season last year finishing 7-3 with a playoff loss to Paola.  The chieftains hope to build off of the strong finish to last year’s season with a good amount of returning players and the addition of a few players that did not see the field last season. Tongie is looking for some revenge against Basehor after last year’s 42-6 season opening loss left a bad taste in their mouths. Basehor had a good season last year finishing 10-2 with losses to Louisburg in the regular season and Bishop Miege in the State Semifinals.  Basehor leads the overall score of the rivalry 8-7 (maxpreps.com), but the chieftains hope to even up the all time score tonight.

Come out to see the improvements to Beatty Field, the stadium, and cheer on your Tonganoxie Chieftains tonight at 7pm!
